NEARSTORE® ON FAS

Near-line disk storage designed for data protection and data retention.

Disk-based storage for data protection and data retention has become an established practice in enterprise data centers. However, the sheer amount of data required by these applications creates 'data center sprawl' and consumes valuable storage resources. Data center managers, therefore, must ensure that disk storage units used in these applications have superior data management tools, energy efficiencies, and features such as data deduplication that reduce the actual amount of disk capacity required.

Since the introduction of NearStore in 2002, NetApp has played a leading role in designing efficiency into disk-to-disk data storage. NearStore systems are near-line disk storage units that combine NetApp's powerful Data ONTAP® operating system with high capacity disk drives and data management features tailored specifically for disk-based data protection and retention.
