METRO ETHERNET SERVICES UNIT 1850


A key component of Nortel’s Carrier Ethernet Solution, the Metro Ethernet Services Unit 1850 is a high-performance, cost effective platform built for the edge of provider networks as the delivery point for Ethernet VPN and IP-based services in various network applications, including business service delivery, residential service aggregation, and active Ethernet installations.

When combined with Nortel's Metro Ethernet Routing Switch 8600, the Metro Ethernet Services Unit 1850 provides 50 millisecond restoration time with the highest levels of scalability, as well as the ability to map individual customer VLANs to separate customer VPNs. It may be deployed in ring-based or point-to-point topologies in the metro access network.

Key Features:

  • Cost-optimized customer located equipment (CLE) device suitable for new access network build outs or existing network infrastructures.
  • Ethernet access ring resiliency, for sub 50ms resiliency and highly efficient bandwidth aggregation in a switched Ethernet ring topology.
  • Physical demarcation and secure customer separation on a shared uplink for security between provider and end customers.
  • Multiple services (e.g. Internet access, E-VPN, VoIP/video backhaul, etc.) per physical interface for maximum revenue generation.
  • Multiple classes of service for prioritization and traffic management required to offer and meet strict SLAs.
End to end Service OAM tool set for complete fault management, configuration, troubleshooting, and service activation.
