When it comes to scalability, the System z is a world record-holder, delivering 9,445 business transactions per second based on more than 380 million accounts with three billion transaction histories as part of the world's largest Core Banking Benchmark run by IBM and Financial Network Services (FNS), a subsidiary of Tata Consultancy Services, for the Bank of China.

  • The benchmark included an IBM System z9 Parallel Sysplex mainframe running IBM's DB2 database software and FNS's BANCS core banking application software and was independently audited by InfoSizing.
  • The z10 leverages over 40 years of security development and innovation, designed to protect against hacks, keep private data from getting 'in the clear,' and allow for easy management of complex security issues.
  • Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co., from 23 distributed servers to one System z.
  • The z10's operating system, z/OS, works with a hardware device called a Cryptographic Coprocessor, designed to ensure that sensitive information—such as customers' credit card information, addresses and social security numbers—cannot be accessed by unauthorized users.
