The Cisco Content Switching Module (CSM) adds advanced layer 4 to layer 7 content switching capabilities to the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series Switch or the Cisco 7600 Series Router providing high-performance, feature rich layer 4 to layer 7 load balancing to existing layer 2 and layer 3 features of the Catalyst platforms. The Cisco CSM offers a complete set of advanced features and benefits including:

  • Investment protection in a high-density, scalable platform with proven reliability
  • Reduced application response times, optimized service delivery, increased application uptime and service scalability for servers, firewalls, VPN devices, SSL termination devices and caches
  • Fault-tolerant configurations to provide improved application uptime utilizing connection and sticky state redundancy for seamless failover
  • Accommodation for a wide range of common IP protocols, including TCP, User Datagram Protocol (UDP), and higher-level protocols, including Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Telnet, Domain Name System (DNS), Real-Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
  • Integration into an existing infrastructure, minimizing the time and resources required to deploy content switching services
