NetVault®: Backup VDL presents the backup administrator with an abundance of new methods to augment and fine tune current backup strategies. NetVault™: Backup creates a virtual tape library – stocked with drives, slots, and media – on disks. Not only does this simplify backing up from disk, the administrator can also take advantage of the random access nature of disk-based devices to improve the performance of existing backup and restore jobs. The module governs all the features and operates in exactly the same manner as a real tape library.

Enhanced Administrator Productivity

NetVault: Backup Disk-to-Disk allows the administrator to freely design any number of customized virtual libraries – each with its own specific number of tape drives, tape slots, and tape sizes to precisely fit the situation at hand. NetVault: Backup Disk-to-Disk sorts multiple data streams from multiple clients from the LAN, concurrently into single, complete data streams on disk. In turn, these data streams can be easily and smoothly migrated or duplicated to real tape for offsite storage, ensuring a fast restore from either tape or disk.

While NetVault: Backup Disk-to-Disk can stand on its own as a backup solution, when coupled with a real tape library and NetVault: Backup and it’s value added plugins, the potential of NetVault: Backup Disk-to-Disk is astounding. Backup sets can be automatically migrated or duplicated to real tape media, allowing optimal data transfer to the tape drive. This eliminates the need to wait for packets from a LAN and the speed of processing Incremental Backup Consolidations can be increased dramatically. This combination allows administrators to have the best of both worlds: keeping offsite backups elsewhere, while retaining fresh backups on disk for ultra-fast restores!
