DATA MIGRATOR FOR NAS DEVICES

Need to control the growth of file systems, NAS-stored data and email? Data Migrator provides policy-based active migration to reduce the size of data stored on primary disk, by moving older and less frequently used data to less costly secondary storage. Data files and messages can be "stubbed", which makes it transparent to end-users who may need to find and open the files and messages without administrator assistance.

Data Migrator supports secondary disk and tape as archive targets. Data Migrator provides staged disk-to-disk-to-tape archive defined by Storage Policies that define retention periods and automatically move data from device to device. For example, you can archive 90 days on disk for fast retrieval, then automatically move to any combination of secondary disk or tape for longer-term, lower-cost retention.

The advantages provided by Data Migrator include:

  • Extend the life of primary storage systems by reducing the amount of data that needs to be actively stored on those systems
  • Speed application performance, such as for Exchange, by reducing the size of the data against which the application operates
  • Reduce the time required to perform data backup and recovery operations
  • Reduce the secondary storage required for backup copies, both disk and tape

Data Migrator operates on its own, and can be added to CommVault Galaxy Backup & Recovery and Continuous Data Replicator (CDR) deployments for added value.
